10 Tips for an Amazing Learning Technologies 2017

We are excited to be exhibiting once again at the Learning Technologies Expo the 1st and 2nd of February. This is Mimeo’s third year at the Expo, and not only are we trying out some new things (like leading a Seminar on the expo floor), we also have some advice for conference-goers on how to make the most of the event.

  • Plan Your Time

With only two days of expo, you need to be strategic with your time. Research the agenda and exhibitors beforehand to know exactly what you want to learn and who you want to met. But be sure to leave some flex time so that you can stop by exhibitors that catch your eye on the floor.

  • Be Prepared With Business Cards

You’re going to be meeting new people left and right in the sessions, networking events, and expo. Don’t forget your business cards so you can foster your new relationships after the conference is over.

  • Take Notes

Whether you prefer paper notebooks, your tablet, or smartphone, you’re going to want to take notes during the conference. Come prepared with your device of choice and any accoutrements it requires (like pens). And if you are taking notes online, don’t forget to #WoL (work out loud) and share your notes with fellow attendees on the conference app or on Twitter.

  • Stay Powered On

Bring a back-up power source and your phone charger so that you can keep juice in your phone.

  • Get Ready for Small Talk

With 7,500 people there, you are going to talk to someone you don’t know. If that is a little daunting, get some conversation starters ready. You can find some great ones around the internet, such as The Muse’s list of 30 conversation starters.

  • Get Ready for Conversation Enders

In the same vein, you’ll probably find yourself in a conversation or two that need to end. This doesn’t even mean that the connection isn’t a good one; sometimes small talk goes on too long simply because no one knows how to end the conversation. Again, the Muse has some suggestions (and so does The Art of Manliness).

  • Prepare to Walk

With over 7,500 attendees and 180 exhibitors expected at Learning Technologies, you’re going to do a lot of walking. Wear comfortable socks and shoes, and consider bringing an extra pair to change into so you can alternate.

  • Be Prepared for Social

More and more learning professionals connect and learn from each other with social media. Use the official #LT17uk hashtag on Twitter to access conversations at the conference you’d otherwise miss, including highlights from sessions simultaneous to the one you’re sitting in. As a bonus, by joining in the conversation online, you’ll have an automatic network to talk to for the rest of the year.

  • Bring a Positive Attitude

No one wants to connect with someone who has a raincloud hovering over their head. Be ready to learn and positive so that you can make a great first impression on everyone you meet.

  • Attend the Mimeo seminar!

This year, Torban Williams is sharing Mimeo’s expertise on blended content delivery.  Stop by Theatre 3 on the Expo Floor at 16:15 on February 2nd to answer the question: Does digital delivery of training content have to be all or nothing?
